This past weekend, Mehdia Hassan had the pleasure of sharing our Pashto and Dari resource booklets with Afghan newcomer families in Cornwall, Eastern Ontario. The event, hosted by CESOC, took place during a vibrant community picnic in the park. She was invited to present in Dari and speak with parents about how these resources can support their children’s learning.
Families who spoke both Pashto and Dari were present, and we distributed booklets in both languages. The response was overwhelmingly positive! Parents expressed strong interest in how the materials could help their children catch up after time away from school, prepare for the next grade, and even plan for college or university.
Upcoming Event in Toronto
Next week, we’ll continue our outreach at Marc Garneau Collegiate Institute during their Afghan Parents Night. Mehdia will bring copies of the Pashto, Dari, and English booklets to share with families. The school’s ESL and LEAP teams have shown interest in the project, and Mehdia also introduced the idea of offering workshops for schools and communities.
Marc Garneau serves a large Afghan population, and we’re excited about the potential for future collaboration. Stay tuned for updates!
