In the fall of 2024, Martine, a graduate student from the Netherlands, joined the ESCAPE project to share her knowledge of the Dutch education system. During these months, she wrote a section about the Netherlands for the ESCAPE website and created a Dutch version of the 12-lesson booklet as part of her internship.
For the booklet, she focused on translating and adapting the content based on the Ontario’s educational curriculum to align with the educational context in the Netherlands. The booklet provides practice-oriented material to help teachers better understand what it means to give language friendly education, making it more approachable for teachers. With this new version of the booklet, Dutch-speaking teachers can become inspired to design language friendly lessons. Furthermore, the adaptation process offered an interesting insight into what changes are needed to make educational content adaptable to school contexts across countries. The final version of the booklet can be found on the ESCAPE website and will be shared by the Language Friendly School.
